It is still winter in California.
On Sunday last, Kaia and I drove an hour northwest to Merced National Wildlife Refuge. We wanted to audio record the geese and cranes before they departed to points north. As we enjoyed the cacophony of the flocks, a coyote ran out of the scrub toward the flock. Suddenly hundreds of wings were flapping in a panic and neighbors slapped wingtip in an effort to escape the predator. Unfortunately I wasn't recording at that exact moment. But I did train a camera on the coyote as it sheepishly walked by.
